Job done! Thank you, everyone who contributed!

The idea of fundraising by donating a few pence for every goal seen during a football season is not a new one. Our first attempt during season 2010-2011 saw us donate to Mansfield based APTCOO, followed a couple of years later by a season dedicated to raising funds for Maggie’s Nottingham.

Having looked at various options for season 2017-2018, and after searching the web for local children’s charities, THINK CHILDREN in Newark seemed to be ideal. The charity offers one-on-one counselling to troubled children aged between 4-11 years. Kev and I have Grandchildren in those age brackets and we both thought the charity remit was superb – hoping, obviously, that ours will never need their services!

As per previous seasons, Kev and I added cash to the charity fund for every goal we saw while we were getting our football “fix”. Unlike previous seasons, we decided not to ask our football friends for contributions. There were already enough charitable causes, charity games etc. for them to support without adding one more to the list. Having said that, our cause didn’t go unnoticed, and almost 50% of the cash raised was donated by our non-league football friends. I need to put on record that the support given has been superb, and I still can’t believe how many of our “football family” were prepared to contribute, without even being asked!

The total number of games taken in from July 2017 – May 2018, was 311. With 1403 goals seen, plus the monies from our “ontheroad” friends, I can now announce that the final fund total is £840.00, and as we only set £300.00 as a target originally, it goes without saying that the season’s fundraiser has been a terrific success!

The funds have now been handed over to the charity – thank you to all those listed below for their valued contributions. Once again the non-league community shows it’s generosity!
