Another visit to Eagle Valley, this time to watch Arnold Town Ladies Development FC take on Market Warsop LFC in an East Midlands Regional Womens Football League Divison 1 North fixture. Emily Obeng put the home team ahead in just the 8th minute and Jess Long fired home from the corner of the box on 16 to double Arnold’s lead. Shelley Marriott-Smith brought the visitors back into the game 8 minutes before the break, her powerful drive from 12 yards too good for the home keeper. H-T 2-1

Obeng added Arnold’s third a couple of minutes into the second half, but the visitors never gave up and were back in it on 58 when former Arnold player Emily Nellis drove the ball home from 15 yards. Arnold now had their backs to the wall and held on until the 89th minute when Marriott-Smith fired home from close range to bring the scores level. With 5 minutes of added time played, the home team’s defence was ripped open again, and when a deflected shot rolled towards the goal, they were thankful a defender was on hand to hack the ball away and despite their early dominance, Arnold must have been grateful to leave Eagle Valley with a point. F-T 3-3

Thursday 21st September

Admission £3.00 / £1.00

Basford Utd U18 entertained Dunkirk FC U18 in the F.A. Youth Cup. The teams looked well matched initially, but Dunkirk gradually took control of the game and went ahead in the 27th minute when Dylan Kubu prodded home from close range after the Basford keeper could only parry an Ethan Hunter shot. H-T 0-1

Things got worse for the home team on 53 when a George Boswell low drive flew past the home keeper to double Dunkirk’s advantage. We had to wait until the 4th minute of added time for the next goal, Louis Parkes firing the ball home low and hard from the edge of the box. F-T 0-3. Dunkirk will now meet Harborough Town Youth at home in the next round.

Friday 22nd September

Admission: £2.00 / £1.00

Southwell City travelled to Bilborough Town in a Notts Senior League Premier Division game and with the home team missing several players for one reason or another, City took full advantage and ran out comfortable winners. Town did take the lead in the 6th minute, Ellis Williamson slotting the ball across the goal and into the far corner of the net, but their lead lasted only 8 minutes as Romello Nangle tricked his way into the box before firing past stand in keeper Jack Cooper. The same player added Southwell’s second on 38, this time taking on the whole home defence before drilling the ball home from 12 yards. H-T 1-2

Nangle completed his hat-trick from the spot 10 minutes after the restart, then City added a fourth when Calum Law headed home powerfully from a right wing corner on the hour mark. Town did grab a second with 7 to play, Liam Stewart running into the City area before slotting the ball past the City keeper. Southwell had the final word though, Dalton Stevens firing home after he was picked but in the area. F-T 2-5

Eastwood looked up for this straight from the off, and were deservedly ahead in the 23rd minute when Joe Butler nodded the ball over the outstretched arms of Mike Randall as the keeper came out to try and punch clear. With half an hour played, Hucknall went further behind when a Greg Conn cross from the right was headed towards the Town goal by Butler, and Jordan Phillips' attempt to clear with a low, stooping header went horribly wrong, the ball ending up in the back of his own net. (The goal has been subsequently awarded to Butler - and I reckon Phillips will be happy with that decision,). In added time, the Red Badgers added a third when Paddy Webb made a terrific run into the box before firing the ball across Randall and into the far corner of the goal. H-T 0-3

Butler added Eastwood’s fourth on 72, his instant control of the ball with his instep just inside the Hucknall area left him with just Randall to beat, and the striker did this with some ease. With 10 to play, Town did manage to spoil Eastwood’s clean sheet, Adam Nelson stepping up to fire home from the spot. Harry Allen came on late in the game for Eastwood, and the big man should have bagged twice, but hit one close range effort way over the bar, and dragged another inches wide with most of the goal to aim at. F-T 1-4
